SlapJerk Original

3 or More Players

The dealer shuffles then deals cards one at a time face down to each player (including himself) until all cards are dealt. Players square their cards into a neat stack in front of themselves without looking at them.

The dealer takes the top card from his pile and reads the description of that card aloud WITHOUT REVEALING THE CHARACTER’S NAME. He then deposits that card to the bottom of his pile. He may, at any time, re-read the description if requested by the other players but he does not play any cards from his pile in this round.

Next, the player to the dealer’s left takes the top card from his pile and without looking at it, places it face up in the center of the table making sure to turn the card away from himself quickly.

Play advances clockwise with each player flipping a card from their own pile and placing it onto the center pile.

When a flipped card matches the description of the character read by the dealer, the first person to slap that card gets all of the cards in the center pile and adds it to the bottom of their own pile. When the card placed in the center pile is a Jerk, the first player to slap the Jerk gets the whole pile and adds it to the bottom of their own pile. The first time either of these two events occurs, the winner of the center pile becomes the dealer and game play is repeated.

If a player slaps a card that is not a Jerk or does not match the character’s description read by the dealer, he must give the top card of his own pile to the person who played the card that he slapped. That person adds it to the bottom of their own pile and game-play continues.

The game continues until one player wins all the cards, or time is called. If time is called, the player with the most cards wins.

SlapJerk Legacy

2 or More Players

Game play is identical to SlapJerk Original except that the dealer doesn’t read a card and players only slap when a Jerk is played.

SlapShout

2 or More Players

With this variation, players turn over their top card at the same time. If any cards show the same character, OR a Jerk is played by any player, the first player to shout the name of the character, or “JERK!” if it’s a Jerk, gets all of the cards played. If there are no matches or Jerks played, the game continues with players turning over the next card in their deck.

If a player shouts “Jerk!” or the name of a character in error, he must give the top card of his own pile to the person who played the card he misidentified. In games with more than two players, if more than one player shouts in error, each must forfeit a card. When a player runs out of cards, he has until the end of the play and the next play to attempt to win cards. After this, he is eliminated. Eliminated players can act as judges as to who calls out first. The player with all of the cards at the end is the winner.
